Edit
The world has been stirred recently by the emergence of a virus called Corona. The virus was first reported by WHO to the Chinese National Health Commission on December 31, 2019 from Wuhan City, China. Well, what makes me horrified, until now at least 17 lives have died because of being infected with the virus.
From the findings of Chinese scientists, the Corona virus has similarities with SARS and MERS. Both are known to be equally deadly, and can be transmitted from human to human.
Derived from Animals
Corona virus is usually found in farm animals, mammals such as rats and bats, and reptiles such as snakes. However, it can spread to humans. According to the Chinese Government, the provisional suspicion of the spread of the virus was due to the habit of Wuhan residents eating wild animals which happened to have contracted the virus first, and sold it at the Huanan Seafood Market.
This is corroborated by the findings of the China Disease Control and Prevention Center, if a number of the initial participants who contracted the virus with the scientific name Novel 201 Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) are employees in the Huanan Market.
As is known, the Huanan Market sells a variety of unique types of food, such as wolf cubs, live foxes, crocodiles, giant salamanders, snakes, mice, peacocks, porcupines, camel meat to ferrets. Because of this case, reported by AFP, the people of Wuhan City were temporarily isolated to control its spread.
Symptoms of Corona Virus Infection
Someone who is infected with Corona virus will show some symptoms like pneumonia, both mild and severe. This is marked by the occurrence of fever with high body temperature, dry cough, to difficulty breathing. This is because the Corona virus attacks parts of the respiratory organs, especially the lungs. When checked by x-rays, the lung organs infected with this virus will appear to swell because it is filled with fluid.
Distribution of Viruses Outside China
The gravity again, this virus has spread abroad. If in China as many as 544 cases were confirmed, in Thailand there were 2 confirmed cases of the Corona virus. In addition, in Japan, South Korea and the United States, 1 case of Corona virus has been confirmed.
Treatment and Prevention
Unfortunately Corona virus infection has no vaccine, so researchers are still working hard to find a cure. However, according to WHO, maintaining hand hygiene and breathing is the main key to prevention.
In addition to using a mask to cover the nose and mouth, and reduce direct contact with wild animals and pets, always wash your hands thoroughly, especially before eating.
