Speaking of bathing, you definitely think this one activity will actually make you fresh and clean from dirt, bacteria and germs so it's healthy, right? However, did you know that apparently there are some habits that are done while bathing it actually makes you sick?
According to Dr. Jeremy S. Fenton of the Schweiger Dermatology Group, you only need to spend about five to ten minutes. Use a temperature that is comfortable enough but not to make the room become excessive steamy to avoid dry skin. After that, immediately apply moisturizer within the first three minutes after bathing.
Besides the matter of time, temperature, and application of moisturizers that are often underestimated, there are still some other unhealthy bathing habits. In order not to keep doing it and put your body at risk for longer, here are some things in your bathing routine that you should avoid.
1. Take a bath too often
Typically, people shower twice a day: morning and evening or night. But actually, if you are not too sweaty, dirty, or hot, bathing once a day is not a problem.
The reason is none other than to maintain the skin's natural moisture levels. As we get older, the skin produces less oil so that the skin tends to be drier. Therefore, avoid worsening the situation with moderate bathing, especially if you like to bathe using warm water.
2. Lathering all surfaces of the body
Still for you who often take a shower more than once a day when you are not in a condition that really needs it, pay attention to this one. You don't need to clean the entire surface of the body with soap.
Use soap only on fragrant, dirty, or folded scents such as the armpits, chest, upper back, genital area, and toes. The rest is enough to rinse with enough water. Because, the active ingredients in soap can remove the natural oil barrier on the skin.
3. Put the shaver carelessly
Lazy to put the shaver back in the storage area? From now on, make sure you always keep this tool in a dry and safe place when not in use.
Placing the shaver in a damp, wet area will invite bacteria to flourish in your shaver. As a result, you will become more easily infected when you use it later.
4. Do not use water filters
If you still use a normal bathtub at home, you do not have to replace it with a shower. But at the very least, use a water filter that can be installed in the tap to minimize dirt and chemicals that come flowing and are used to cleanse your body.
Chlorine and other chemicals in bath water can worsen health. Not only does it make your skin and hair dry, these ingredients are also not good for overall body health.
5. Make your bathroom slippery
Slippery bathroom floor conditions will increase the risk of you falling and experiencing various undesirable conditions: sprains, broken bones, or various other injuries. You certainly don't want this to happen, right?
For that, make sure you keep the condition of the bathroom remained dry and not slippery. Use rubber as a mat and make sure you put it outside the wet bathroom area.
6. Does not dry the body completely
Make sure that you really dry your body properly after bathing. Not only the top, the area around the foot, especially between the fingers also must dry completely.
Like the information you have read or heard many times, bacteria and fungus not only like it, but are deeply in love with humid conditions. Therefore, before wearing clothes, socks, shoes, etc., dry the wet body parts so that the pathogen is not trapped in your own body.
7. Using toxic materials
The large selection of body hygiene products makes you have to be more careful in choosing which one to use. From now on, it's not wrong to look for more information about what ingredients you should avoid and use.
There are so many bath products that contain chemicals that are harmful to the body and have carcinogenic properties. When using this product for a long time, surely you know the risks?
8. Too often soak
Soaking in warm water after a long day is fun. However, compared to regular bathing, bathing has a greater risk to health, especially urinary tract infections.
This is because when you soak, the dangerous ingredients contained in the products that you use more easily enter the urinary tract. Moreover, if the water used is not really clean (which unfortunately cannot always be checked with the naked eye), this risk will certainly become even greater.
As an activity that becomes a daily routine, it is important for you to care more about bathing. Because the purpose of bathing is to make you fresher and healthier, don't let small habits in it actually trigger the opposite effect.
