There is no doubt that Real Madrid is the most successful club in the world. One proof is 13 Champions League trophies, the highest of all other European clubs. So it's not surprising that many players dream of being able to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But these seven players chose to be loyal to their old club, even though Real Madrid really wanted it. Who are they? Following the review.
1. Marco Veratti
Marco Veratti has been the target of Real Madrid since 2008 when he was still defending Pescara. But in 2012 he chose PSG as his destination. That decision proved right because he was able to develop and present many titles for the French club.
Even so, Real Madrid reportedly has not given up hope to get the player's signature to date. He was planned as a candidate for successor to Luka Modric who was 34 years old.
2. Paul Pogba
Although currently Pogba is rumored to want to move to Real Madrid, in fact he never rejected the offer of Real Madrid while still defending Juventus. In 2016, he got two offers, MU and Real Madrid.
Pogba then finally chose to join Manchester United who appointed Jose Mourinho as coach. Four seasons ago, Pogba is now reportedly ready to leave Old Trafford.
3. Neymar
Neymar's talent has been a struggle for big clubs since he was young. Real Madrid reportedly made up to two times disappointed by the player. First in 2006 when Real Madrid tried to bring Neymar, who was 13 years old to their academy.
The second chance occurred in 2013, when Real Madrid were cornered by Barcelona to get Neymar from Santos.
4. Roy Keane
Former Manchester United captain who is known for being hard, Roy Keane has never been offered by Real Madrid. That happened in 2005 when Roy Keane was at odds with club management.
But he declined the offer because he was already feeling old and would not be able to contribute much. He finally landed at the Scottish club, Celtic at the end of his career.
5. Patrick Vieira
Patrick Vieira was an important part of Arsenal when he won the Premier League 2003/2004 season with a record without defeat. Afterwards Real Madrid also applied for the player and reportedly had a deal.
But the player changed his decision and chose to stay one more season. In 2005 he left, but not Real Madrid but Juventus as his goal.
6. Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard is a legendary player and former Liverpool captain who will never be forgotten. He spent most of his career with the Reds before retiring in MLS.
In the mid-2000s, his name became hunted by big clubs. In 2006 Real Madrid tempted him to leave. But he flatly refused because he felt it was difficult if he had to leave his childhood club.
7. Francesco Totti
Francesco Totti is a Roman prince who spent his entire career for one club, which is 25 years. During that time he also refused the offer of Real Madrid three times.
His love for AS Roma is the reason he survives even though there are not many trophies he can win. At AS Roma, Totti has only won one Serie A trophy and two Coppa Italia.
